Why Some People Won’t Get Well

There is an idea in the health and wellness space that you can do x,y, and z and you’ll eventually end up being a healthy person. To some extent this is a true statement. There is one thing that really makes the difference in all of it though, the human component! I take care of a lot of different people in the office but all of them are often dealing with very similar conditions. Chronic pain, sleep issues, headache or migraines, adhd/anxiety, dizziness, and some others thrown in there.

All of those conditions are serious and all of those conditions can get better! When people come into the office who are dealing with these things they can have a decent handle on them. Meaning they have figured out how to live their day to day life without slowing down too much which is great. This is also where things can get tricky. When we start them under care sometimes healing isn’t linear. Meaning just because we started care doesn’t mean that we are going to see positive results regarding symptom relief immediately.

Let’s take working out as an example for this idea. If you never really worked out then started with a personal trainer how are you going to feel after the first few weeks of your workouts? You are going to feel sore as hell! The goal of working out is to get yourself into better shape and make yourself feel better overall. Yet in the beginning you feel worse, it hurts to move, lifting small things in your home can even be painful! This doesn’t mean that in the long run it’s not going to be worth it….the work will totally pay off!

Why Some People Won’t Get Well

There are people who come into our office who won’t get well, and there are a variety of reasons for this. Some of it is due to their actual body and something more major going on, it can be lifestyle related, or personal issues. What we see most of the time is lifestyle related problems and personal issues. Getting healthy is no easy feat, especially if someone has been living with chronic health problems for years and years.

As we mentioned above when someone starts care their symptoms can sometimes get worse. This is really challenging for everyone (including me the practitioner) but the key is to stay the course as things will get better!

Unfortunately a lot of people prefer the certainty of misery to the misery of uncertainty. This is a really powerful statement and one that I think everyone can agree upon in some area of their life. There are things that we just simply put up with because we don’t want to do the work it takes to change and potentially make the said thing better…this can be due to the fact that we aren’t sure if things will actually get better but we will never know unless we try.

When people come into the office they are usually dealing with something that has been going on for years and years. If something has been going on for that long it’s impossible to think that it will go away in a short period of time. It often takes 6-8 months of consistent nervous system work to fix these issues and patterns that have been engrained over many years. Due to this there are times when people can start to feel a little bit worse because we are making such huge changes within their bodies. This is the point where people start to prefer the certainty of misery instead of the misery of uncertainty. Meaning they would rather stay with how they were instead of pushing through and getting better overall!

One of my goals when people come in for care at The Specific Chiropractic Center Naples is help empower them and keep them focused on the end goal. I want to make sure people can become the best version of themselves. I admit that sometimes that means going a different route with their healthcare and what they are trying and I’m supportive of that. If what we do at The Specific Naples is going to be beneficial to them then there is no doubt in my mind that we can get them better in the long run!

Computerized infrared thermography is one of the pieces of equipment that helps us show people how we can help get their body working better and show that we are making functional changes to their body. I also help them realize that other changes in their life may be necessary to see the full benefits of what we do here at the office and how it may be holding their body back from healing fully!

There are a variety of reasons why some people won’t get well but what I see most is that most people would rather not risk changing their lives to get better instead of making a change that may get them better than ever. It is often heartbreaking and frustrating to see from my point of view but all I can do is support people in their decision and make it known that I will be here when they are ready to make that jump towards true health. If you’re someone who feels stuck and isn’t sure what you should do next then maybe care at The Specific Chiropractic Center Naples is perfect for you. We can set up a complimentary consultation to have you come in and see if you’d be a good fit for the office. We will sit down with you, learn more about what you have going on, and do some simple tests so we can see how your body is doing as a whole. I hope you’ve learned something from this blog and if you’re someone who is struggling with the idea of making a change for the better but are unsure if you can do it…pull yourself up by the bootstraps and take the plunge!
