Best Pillow for Neck Pain

Waking up with a sore neck sucks. Even worse is trying to go to sleep but you’re unable to do so because you can’t get comfortable due to neck pain that you’re dealing with! When I was around 12 or 13 years old I went to Disney World with my friend Kyle and his family. It was actually my first time on a plane as well so it was a pretty big deal! When I woke up the morning we were going to Disney World I couldn’t move my head up!

I was stuck almost looking directly at the ground, it was too painful to lift my head at all! Unfortunately I had to walk around all day mainly looking at the ground because I literally couldn’t look up. That night I decided to try and sleep without a pillow…maybe the pillow caused this unbearable pain I had?

The next morning I woke up and was totally fine! Zero pain, full range of motion, I could stand up straight again. It somewhat felt like a miracle!

This definitely got my wheels turning regarding pillows, beds, and how sensitive my body is to them. What’s crazy is still to this day…20 years later, my body is still sensitive to this stuff, luckily not as much though.

This story brings me to the topic of this blog which is all about the best pillow for neck pain! This is somewhat complicated as it can range for everyone but there is a general type of pillow that does work best for neck pain.

Best Pillow for Neck Pain

There is one main thing we need when it comes to the best pillow for neck pain. Our head and neck NEEDS to be in a neutral position with the rest of your body. This comes to sleeping on your back or your side….you should not be sleeping on your stomach, it’s terrible for your neck. Why is it terrible for your neck? Try watching tv with your head turned 90 degrees for any extended period of time, that’s what you’re doing when you sleep on your stomach.

So we want the head and neck to be in a neutral position when we are sleeping. Neutral meaning in comparison to the rest of our spine. We want a nice even line going from the base of our head down to our tailbone. If we have a kink in that line in the neck area that is not good.

With that being said a pillow with a wave like design is going to be our best option. There are a lot of those types of pillows out there but what I have found is the density of them varies drastically. We do not want one that is too stiff or too soft, that is going to become uncomfortable overtime. It is also nice to have a pillow that is adjustable! With adjustability we are able to customize the pillow height to your body and liking…without sacrificing the support your head and neck should be receiving while sleeping.

The Pillow I Recommend to Everyone!

There are a lot of pillows to choose from but the one that I always recommend to people when they are looking for a better pillow to sleep with is the Creative Comfort Adjustably Yours 4! If you open that link you will see that the pillow is pretty adjustable and customizable to your liking. One side is bigger than the other and the inserts are also different sizes to accommodate what you like. The foam density is the biggest factor, it is plush enough to where it is comfortable yet firm enough so that it holds its shape. This allows your head and neck to stay in a neutral position which is what we want in a pillow.

Something that I have noticed with the pillow is if I use the pillow in a really cold environment it is really firm at first. But once you lay on it the foam warms up from your body and forms to your head and neck which is really cool! As you can see on the website it has a bunch of channels incorporated on the surface to help promote cooling….no one likes a hot pillow!!

One of the benefits I have heard people say once they get this pillow is a decrease in neck pain when they wake up in the morning, a decrease in shoulder and back pain, and also a decrease in the number of headaches or migraines they may be experiencing.

It is no secret that a proper pillow can make a world of difference if you are dealing with neck pain, back pain, headaches, or migraines. If you are dealing with any of these things I really hope that you take this blog seriously and make the necessary changes to your sleeping situation. If you are interested in the creative comfort adjustable pillow reach out to me as I can get you a little bit better of a price than what’s on their website.

If you do or don’t get the specific pillow mentioned above it doesn’t matter to me. What I hope for is that you decide to take the information that’s been presented and make a positive change. Remember that the main goal is to make sure that your head, neck, and rest of your spine is in one even line when you are lying down. The proper way to sleep is by sleeping on your side or your back and having a mattress and pillow that supports your body enough is important to achieve this. If you are still having neck pain, back pain, headaches, or migraines after trying these things then it may be time to seek some help. I work with people all the time at The Specific Chiropractic Centers Naples all the time with these issues so I believe we would be able to help you out with no problems! Hope you enjoyed this and if you have any questions reach out to me!

When I was a kid we went on a couple vacations every year. Growing up in Wisconsin during spring break heading south was pretty standard for many families. After months of frigid cold temps and snow, the idea of traveling to warm weather was very much welcomed!

Have you ever eaten a bunch of starbursts? When I was in high school I would always get starbursts from the vending machines. I would go through the whole pack in the course of an afternoon…at the same time I would notice that my jaw would get a little sore from all the chewing I would be doing…as they can be quite hard sometimes!
